4 Kings Loud have completed the bass recording for the new six-track EP after working late into the night at MWM. Post-production is required and re-amping is the next stage of the process but the tracks are in the mix! The recording itself took less than ten hours in total, takes were keep at a minimum to keep the bar open and maintain the participants dizzying heights. More work will follow shortly…

Jimmy, Rob and Waycool worked on the final track for the up-coming EP at Waycool’s MWM room last night. Here’s a real short video of Rob laying down some tasty melodies.

Mortal Coil was recorded on only 3 guitars, all being Les Paul’s with EMG pickups. After an initial trial run of two tracks back in January 2011, recording with a combination of passive and active pickups will be used to help widen the guitar tone.

The typical “Red Rocker” that has been extensively used on Firepower recordings will get a look in, amongst the usual Les Paul Customs, an Ibanez RGT220a and an Ibanez 7 string. Some may remember The Fondlers track, “Falling Down” that was recorded on the Ibanez String pictured below.

Mortal Coil tracks such as “Darken Door”, “Your Alibi” and “The War” where actually written on this 7 String but transposed to a dropped B flat 6 string tuning for a unified guitar tone for that recording.
